  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 3 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24-30 ladyfingers
  • 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder


  1. In a heatproof bowl, whisk together egg yolks and 1/2 cup of sugar until well combined.
  2. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water and whisk continuously until the mixture thickens (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and let it cool.
  3. In another bowl, beat the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until it forms stiff peaks. Fold it into the mascarpone mixture.
  5. Gently fold the mascarpone mixture into the egg yolk mixture.
  6. In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
  7. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them for too long, and arrange them in a single layer in the serving dish.
  8. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  9. Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
  10. Cover and refrigerate the tiramisu for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  11. Before serving, dust the top with unsweetened cocoa powder.
